Sports Injury Chiropractor

Dr Weitz is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and he has also worked with many athletes over the years, including a professional basketball team, professional football, baseball, and hockey players, and professional sprinters. Dr. Weitz is well trained to be able to examine and diagnose your sports injury and to play a role in treating the injury, whether it be the spine, the shoulder, the elbow, the wrist, the hand, the hip, the knee, the ankle or the foot. Patients often wonder if they have pain in one of their joints, like their knee, who should they see–their primary care MD, an orthopedic MD, or a Doctor of Chiropractic. Your primary doctor may be a voice of reason but there is little that they can do treatment-wise other than recommend medication or refer you to an orthopedist or a physical therapist. The orthopedic surgeon, of course, is an expert at assessing such injuries, esp. if you are looking for a surgical approach to your problem. The advantages of seeing a Doctor of Chiropractic, like Dr. Weitz, is that not only is he a trained expert at examining and diagnosing sports injuries, and he can prescribe x-rays or MRI, but he can also provide some hands-on treatment to promote healing and reduce pain during the same visit. Such conditions may include rotator cuff tendinitis and impingment of the shoulder, tennis or golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome of the wrist, hip flexor tendinitis, hip impingement, knee sprain or strain, patella tendinitis of the knee, ankle sprain, achilles tendinitis, and plantar fascitis of the foot. Other common conditions that we treat include temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) and rib misalignment/strain.

As a Sports Chiropractor, Dr. Weitz is a skilled manipulator of not only the spine but also of the extremities. We typically address the soft tissues with specialized massage techniques and other therapies like ultrasound, cold laser, and interferential current. Some of the sports injuries are primarily soft tissue injuries, so getting the proper soft tissue work and other therapies may be the focus of the treatment, while joint manipulation may be less helpful in these cases. Keep in mind that your insurance may only cover the chiropractic manipulation, so you may be required to pay an additional fee for the soft tissue work. On the other hand, we still usually check out and adjust the neck and back to make sure that the vertebrae are aligned so the nerves that supply the muscles are flowing freely. The extremities, such as the elbows, wrists, hips, etc can also be manipulated and sometimes the right adjustment of the foot or hip or wrist that can subtly align these bones can make all the difference in a successful treatment. Keep in mind that successful treatment will often require regular treatment several times per week for weeks at a time.
